The South Main Corridor Improvement Project is wrapping up its preliminary stage. Maryville City Manager Greg McDanel says the next step of the project is revealing it to the public.

"The City is continuing with the South Main Corridor Improvement Project.  It's on schedule and in the final stages of preliminary design.  Once design is tightened up a little bit, the City will proceed with public input meetings and also meeting with each individual property owner, business owner, on the corridor."

McDanel adds that the Corridor Improvement Project has been in the making for nearly five years.

"In 2014, the City completed a traffic corridor study to analyze better traffic flow, solving congestion and pedestrian features on South Main from South Avenue to the Bypass.  In 2015 and 2016, we started preliminary engineering on phase 1.  Fortunately, in 2017, the voters approved the renewal of a 1/2 cent capital improvement sales tax and the City was able to acquire a 10.5 million build grant in late 2018 to build this project as one project instead of three individual phases."

Construction bidding is tentatively scheduled for early spring 2020 with a summer start date. Construction is expected to last for 18 to 24 months. For more information, contact the City of Maryville at 660-562-8001.
